If you want to go fast, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.
-African Proverb
I learned this lesson quite early in my career. Early on in a new business venture, I hadn’t grasped the value of investing in my people. At the time, I was struggling with high turnover, less-than-ideal revenues, and no time. It all changed when a mentor told me the secret to building a successful business. It was a simple lesson but one that many never learn.
Before I share this lesson with you, allow me the opportunity to introduce myself and explain how it has served me for close to 30 years. My Name is John Bent, and I am the President of Human Capital Development Group Inc., an authorized Crestcom Business operating in the North Western Greater Toronto Area, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, and PEI.
My leadership background includes both entrepreneurial ventures (local and international) and holding Leadership/Executive Leadership positions within multi-national corporations. I am recognized as a high-impact, results-focusedleader who inspires those around him to believe in themselves and chase greatness. I look forward to supporting other organizations in their growth and development.
Here is the recipe I believe in and have followed throughout my career.
1. Attract and hire great people. Ensure they fit into your vision, your requirements, and your team. If you spend time upfront hiring the right people, you will save time later by not having to do it again and again.
2. Inspire and support them to be successful. Employees want to know you have their back and want them to succeed.
3. Stop telling employees what to do; inspire them to want to do it. An engaged employee will always give more than asked.
4. Give them a voice. Allow them to share ideas and participate in developing strategies, plans, and goals. Let them have ownership by participating in development and solutions.
5. Invest in their growth. Help them develop skills and knowledge, and reward their actions and commitment.
Hiring right, inspiring, and engaging your people will reduce employee churn, strengthen knowledge, and increase your Human Capital value.
Want to Develop your People, Increase your Human Capital Value, and Grow your Business? Give me a call; I would love to discuss how the award-winning Crestcom Leadership Development Programs can HELP YOU develop great leaders because great leaders develop great teams.
