If you want to go fast, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.
-African Proverb
A lesson I had learned quite early in my career. Early on in a new business venture, I hadn’t grasped the value of investing in my people. At the time I was struggling with high turnover, less than ideal revenues, and no time. It all changed when a business leader and mentor shared with me the secret to building a successful business. It was a simple lesson but one that many never learn.
Before I share this lesson with you, allow me the opportunity to introduce myself and explain how it has served me for close to 30 years. My Name is John Bent and I am the President of Human Capital Development Group Inc. We are an Authorized Crestcom International Partner for the four Atlantic Provinces: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland. I am not new to the development of great leaders. In fact, I have been involved with the developed Award-Winning Sales Representatives, Managers, and Leaders for close to 30 years.
My leadership background includes numerous entrepreneurial businesses (local and international) and Leadership/Executive Leadership roles within the Canadian operations of a multi-national corporation. I am recognized as a High Impact, Result Focused Leader who inspires those around him to believe in themselves and chase greatness. I am very proud of the fact that every team, group, or division I had the pleasure to lead has developed and evolved into top contributors.
Here is the recipe I believe in and have followed throughout my career.
1. Attract and hire great people. Ensure they fit into your vision, your requirement, and your team. If you spend time upfront hiring the right people you will save time later by not having to do it again and again.
2. Inspire and support them to be successful. Employees want to know you have their back and want them to succeed.
3. Stop telling employees what to do, inspire them to want to do it. An engaged employee will always give more than asked.
4. Give them a voice. Allow them to share ideas and be part of the developing strategy, plans, and goals. Let them have ownership by being part of the development and solution.
5. Invest in their growth. Help them develop skills and knowledge, and reward their actions and commitment.
If you hire right, inspire, and engage your people, you will reduce your employee churn, strengthen knowledge, and increase your Human Capital value.
Want to Develop your People, Increase your Human Capital Value and Grow your Business? Give me a call, I would love to discuss how the Crestcom Leadership Development Program can HELP YOU develop great leaders because great leaders develop great teams.
