In my early career as a chemist, I was introduced to Lean and Six Sigma. It was like learning the language for concepts that were already intuitive to me. It allowed the team to continuously improve processes and product quality by giving us a common language and a proven framework to follow.
After getting my MBA in operations management at Regis University, I was promoted into my first official leadership role. It was then I found out that people management is much less intuitive! Unfortunately, I was not given a framework to follow. It was trial by fire.
I had to learn the hard way, but you don’t have to!
